Inside painting originated from snuff bottles during the Ming Dynasty. Snuff bottles spread inland following snuff. Before painting sand, and emery were used to prepare the inside surface. Their designs were numerous, and they painted on variety of subjects. From JiaQing in Qing Dynasty, the technological level of inside painting inside snuff bottles has always been extremely high. Some of the most famous people in the rich history of inside painting are Leyuan Zhou from Xian,he painted during the Qing Dynasty, and Zhongsan Ye who painted during the late Qing and early Republic of China period, and Shaoxuan·Ma who also painted during the early days of the Republic of China. Most of their work is now held by private collectors and in museums throughout China.

It became a craftwork around the late 19th century. One of the most well known Chinese inner painters of snuff bottles is Gan Huanwen. In 1816 he painted many which are now owned by a British collector. Inner painting art is different from regular painting in that the painting media, such as the snuff bottles, or now the crystal balls are so difficult to access.

Snuff bottles have lost their original functions ,and mainly now are becoming a media to show this amazing art of inner painting. I went to Beijing, China in 1995. While there something wonderful caught my eye in one of the hotel gift shops. I saw a what I now know as a 110 mm inside painted crystal ball. It had the most beautiful tigers and dragons I have ever seen. I was amazed and kept looking at how could they get inside this ball, and the detail was simply amazing. I bought my first piece that day. Over the rest of my trip I purchased 6 more, and even visited the great wall of China. It was one of the most memorable trips I have ever taken in my life.

Once back in the USA my family and friends were shocked by all my amazing discoveries from the silks, to the other art pieces I was able to find, but the crystal balls by far stole the show. Every one wanted one. I had 7 so I was able to part with a few. I really wanted to go back to China, but I did not have the resources .

Eleven years later, my fortunes changed after coming through some really trying circumstances, I was back in Beijing China . The first thing I wanted to do was go back to the place I found these amazing crystal balls, with the help of some of my Chinese friends, I found a man who knew one of these inside painters, and I commissioned him to paint my first custom crystal ball. This was the day that changed my life forever. This was the genesis of my company today. It was better then I ever imagined. I ordered three more for my family, and when Christmas came they all were breathless to see what I had created for them. Truly an art piece that will last forever, and this is not something you can find in any store any where, not even on the internet. Now I just want to share the joy with the world. I come from a very competitive family, so it felt so good to give a gift I know no one could ever beat. When they saw these amazing crystal ball art pieces for the first time they were just about brought to tears. You will have that same feeling when you have one of these pieces in your hands. You will look at it and say no one can beat this as a gift and you will be the king for sure.
